PS Vita Midnight Launch Guide

With the PS Vita launching in just a couple hours, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering where you can pick up the device hands-on at midnight. The first store you can head out to is the Sony store, but there’s not too many stores launching at midnight with the device. In fact, there’s only 6 stores in the United States that will carry the Vita at midnight. The stores are the following:

Towne Center at Boca Raton – Boca Raton, FL
Houston Galleria – Houston
Fashion Valley – San Diego
Century City Mall – Los Angeles
Valley Fair – Santa Clara, CA
Flagship Sony Store – New York

If you’re one of the first 200 people at the NYC Sony Store, you will receive a free copy of Modnation Racers. More info on that here.

You can also head out to Gamestop where there’s a lot more locations with the PS Vita at midnight. You can check if there’s any Gamestop locations near you carrying a Vita at launch here on the GameStop website. Keep in mind Gamestop locations open at 11pm, not midnight, so be sure to make it out to the store at 11pm to insure your chance at picking up the device. There’s also some trade-in deals available. Trade in a used hand-held console and receive $25 credit towards the PS Vita. Available consoles for trade-in include the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, PSP-1000, PSP-2000, PSP-3000 and PSP Go.

PS Vita PSN Store Now Live in Europe (Full List of Downloadable Content)

The PSN Store for European PS Vita users is now live according to Playstation. The only different between the US and European store is the fact that the European store launched with various apps including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Foursquare that we’ve been waiting for on the United States store. Hopefully these games come to the US store tomorrow on the official launch day, but for now we’ll keep waiting. First 200 People at NYC PS Vita Launch Will Receive Free Game

With the PS Vita launching officially tomorrow, Sony just tweeted out a sweet deal if you’re one of the first 200 people to arrive at the NYC Sony store. You will receive a free copy of Modnation Racers, one of the launch titles for the PS Vita. Sony stated to be at the store by 8, so it may be a little late but if you were planning to head out to that store, then maybe you can still receive the free copy!

Plants vs. Zombies for PS Vita Now Available through PSN

Plants vs. Zombies was released to PSN today on your PS Vita. The game retails for $14.99 and has 50 levels, trophies, leaderboards, mini-games, and more. You can view all the released info about the game after the jump, as well as check out some screenshots directly below.

PS Vita 1.61 Software Update Live

Sony has released the new PS Vita 1.61 software update. The update isn’t major, with Sony stating the only new change is the fact that “1.61 will improve certain aspects of the system software.” However, if you receive your Vita and the device is on a firmware below 1.60, then the update moving forward to 1.61 is quite major. As we’re previously covered, 1.60 added a new Maps application as well as video recording. A full list of the other updates in 1.60 and 1.61 can be found after the jump.

A new application, (Maps), has been added to the home screen.
In addition to photos, you can now take videos using the Photo application.
You can now publish stories about the products that you rate in PlayStation Store to Facebook.
In near, players’ information is now displayed on the Discoveries screen. On this screen, a list of the online IDs of up to 100 players that you have encountered, and the number of times that you encountered each player, are displayed. Tap an online ID to display that player’s profile screen.
The Mac OS version of Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation has been released. The Windows version has also been updated.

You can download Content Manager from here. To update your Vita to 1.61, it’s fairly simple.

Call of Duty for PS Vita Confirmed For Fall Launch

In an interview with GameTrailers, the Sony SVP of Playstation Brand Marketing, Guy Longworth, confirmed that Call of Duty will be coming out this Fall to the PS Vita. In the interview, which you can find embedded below, Longworth noted this fact at around the 4 minute mark. Although he could not comment on which specific title of Call of Duty will be released to Vita, this is great news to hear nonetheless.

Hopefully the game launched for Vita is based on the upcoming version of Call of Duty not yet released, or even an exclusive COD Vita title. With some speculation, the Vita game may be based upon the upcoming Call of Duty due to the fact that new Call of Duty titles tend to launch every November. November definitely fits in the “Fall” time period, which seems to lean towards the Vita title not being a port of an older Call of Duty.

At this link here, if you buy 2 Vita games, you can get a third one completely free of charge! The deal is valid from today, February 19th, all the way until February 25th. The available games for purchase are Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Modnation Racers, Hotshots Golf, Wipeout 2048, and Little Deviants. Get at the deal as soon as possible if you’re interested in buying some Vita games!
